Christopher Bumstead, Urology Outreach Nurse at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Chris has worked for the National Health Service (NHS) for over 20 years working in various departments within the Trust. Initially on the surgical admissions unit/urology ward a 24 bedded unit, Emergency admissions unit a 56 bedded unit until his current career move to Urology Nurse Specialist. He has gained a vast amount of experience within his field with support from colleagues and consultants.
Chris along with his colleague and support from consultants has set up a urology outreach service that covers north Nottinghamshire. The service was initially set up to prevent avoidable acute admissions and facilitate earlier discharges performing complex urological procedures. This service has grown from strength to strength bridging the gap between hospital and community setting.
We have regular meetings with community nurses to discuss problems and help improve the patients’ transition from secondary to primary care. This is achieved by facilitating education and training needs to professionals and patient groups. Work alongside other healthcare professionals to promote healthy living to improve the health of patients undergoing urology procedures and surgery, acting as an advocate for patients to tailor their individual needs.
